SZA Says Met Gala Look Was Built From eBay Finds and Reworked Textiles

At the 2026 Met Gala, SZA said her custom Bode look was made from reworked eBay pieces, including sari fragments and cowries, calling the outfit her “ethereal body” and an expression of “the divine feminine.”

SZA arrived at the 2026 Met Gala on May 4 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York wearing a bright yellow custom look by Emily Adams Bode Aujla of Bode, and she said the full outfit was made from reworked pieces sourced on eBay.

On the red carpet, the singer told host La La Anthony that the dress reflected how she sees herself. “This entire look is made with reworked pieces purchased on eBay. This is like my ethereal body. This is how I see myself,” she said.

The outfit featured a corseted bodice, a structured skirt, and a long yellow train with tonal variation. SZA also wore a jeweled floral headpiece and pointed out specific materials in the styling, including cowries, sari fragments, and real flowers.

She described the concept as an expression of “the divine feminine” and added, “It just wanted to express joy.”

SZA also joked about how the dress looked on camera before explaining her approach to style: “I just love a character and I love playing and I love attention. I just love expressing our culture. And I just love celebrating all cultures.”

Vogue reported that the look was developed through a collaboration involving Bode, eBay, and the publication. Designer Emily Adams Bode Aujla told Vogue that SZA’s outfit connected to both the artist’s personal narrative and a broader art-historical frame.
