Madonna Brings Surreal Saint Laurent Look to 2026 Met Gala Ahead of Confessions II

Madonna wore a surreal custom Saint Laurent look at the 2026 Met Gala as she ramps up for Confessions II, due July 3, following recent singles including a Sabrina Carpenter duet.

Madonna arrived at the 2026 Met Gala on Monday, May 4, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, wearing a custom Yves Saint Laurent look by Anthony Vaccarello tied to this year’s “Fashion Is Art” dress code.

The singer’s all-black outfit featured a dramatic gray veil setup carried by four women and a sculptural headpiece shaped like an old sailing vessel. On the carpet, the veils and ship silhouette created the image of a storm scene in motion.

According to Harper’s Bazaar, the design referenced Leonora Carrington’s painting The Temptation of St. Anthony. The gala celebrated the museum’s new “Costume Art” exhibition, and Madonna’s styling leaned fully into that surreal, theatrical direction.

The appearance comes as Madonna prepares to release Confessions II on July 3. She recently previewed the project with I Feel So Free and Bring Your Love, the latter a duet with Sabrina Carpenter released last Friday.

Carpenter also attended the gala after Madonna’s surprise appearance during her Coachella Weekend 2 headline set. On the carpet, Carpenter wore a gown made from film strips from the 1954 movie Sabrina, which she has described as “one of my favorite films of all time.”

Beyoncé, one of this year’s Met Gala co-chairs, attended with Blue Ivy and Jay-Z.
