Kacey Musgraves Brings Mariachi Brothers Detained by ICE Onstage for “Tú, Sólo Tú” at Gruene Hall

At Gruene Hall on May 4–5, Kacey Musgraves sang "Tú, Sólo Tú" in Spanish with the Mariachi Brothers, teenage siblings who were detained by ICE earlier this year. The performance referenced ranchera history and closed with a Miranda Lambert duet.

On May 4 and May 5, during a three-night residency at Gruene Hall, Kacey Musgraves paused her Middle of Nowhere 2026 set to perform “Tú, Sólo Tú” in Spanish. She was joined onstage by the Mariachi Brothers, teenage siblings who earlier this year were detained by ICE.

Gruene Hall, the Texas venue open since 1878, hosted the second and third nights of Musgraves’ Texas run. The appearances fell during the lead-up to Cinco de Mayo and drew local media attention.

The Mariachi Brothers are Antonio Gámez-Cuéllar, 18; Caleb Gámez-Cuéllar, 14; and Joshua Gámez-Cuéllar, 12. The group played harp, brass and guitars onstage. They have performed on Capitol Hill and other notable stages. Their family detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement earlier this year was widely reported.

“Tú, Sólo Tú” was written by Felipe Valdés Leal in 1949 and is a staple of ranchera repertoire. The song has been recorded by Pedro Infante and others, and later reinterpreted by artists including Linda Ronstadt and Luis Miguel. Selena Quintanilla’s recording appeared on Dreaming of You (1995) and spent 23 weeks at No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart and 10 weeks atop Hot Latin Songs.

Musgraves sang the song in near-perfect Spanish. She wore denim shorts and delivered the melody with clear vibrato. The brothers joined on the orchestration and moved into the spotlight. One of the siblings wore a cowboy hat and face paint that resembled a painted calavera. The audience responded with applause.

Musgraves closed the residency on May 5 by performing “Horses and Divorces” with Miranda Lambert.
