JPEGMAFIA drops "War Over Land" and its tracking-shot video ahead of Experimental Rap, due 5/21 on AWAL.
JPEGMAFIA has released the single “War Over Land” and an accompanying video ahead of his album “Experimental Rap”, which is due 5/21 on AWAL.
The album’s rollout has already included an Instagram-comments exchange with Earl Sweatshirt. Peggy had previously shared the lead single “babygirl”; now he returns with a new track and a high-concept clip.
Unlike some of his rougher moments, “War Over Land” lands as a dramatic, swelling piece. Peggy pairs a choppy, emphatic flow with strings, pianos, and wailing electric guitars. The arrangement gives the song a cinematic sweep even before the visuals begin.
The video
The clip opens on a tight close-up of a man putting a gun to his head and then pans to a group of children filming the scene on their phones. JPEGMAFIA co-directed the video with Logan Fields. Much of it is staged to read as a single tracking shot.
Peggy appears costumed in a look described as “Blade at Fashion Week” and walks through a field past vignettes: kids with guns, a stripper, a zooming Cybertruck, a desperate mother, and other figures that punctuate the sequence.
