Charli XCX releases "Rock Music" with guitars and an Aidan Zamiri-directed video; she says her next album will be more rock and less Auto-Tune.

Charli XCX has released a new single titled “Rock Music,” backed by a music video directed by Aidan Zamiri.
The track leans on loud, crunchy guitars while remaining in the pop lineage Charli has developed over recent years. Now that the dance floor is dead, Charli XCX has her sights set on guitars, or at least shes game to kick her high heels into them.
The video is directed by Aidan Zamiri, who previously directed the video for her “Guess” remix with Billie Eilish.
In a recent British Vogue cover story, Charli confirmed that the proper follow-up to 2024s Brat is coming soon. She said she is “making rock music” and described the upcoming album as featuring more guitars and less Auto-Tune on the vocals. “We were doing our version of analogue, which is so silly and funny,” she told the magazine.
Producers from Brat, A.G. Cook and Finn Keane, the latter formerly known as Easyfun, handled recording sessions in Paris for the new material.
Earlier this year, in February, Charli released a companion album for Emerald Fennells film adaptation of Wuthering Heights. That project included guest contributions from John Cale and Sky Ferreira, the latter of whom claimed all was not as it seemed.
Outside of music, Charli XCX has been active in film. Her credits include Daniel Goldhabers Faces of Death remake, Gregg Arakis forthcoming I Want Your Sex, and her own mockumentary The Moment.
Brat was placed at No. 7 in The 100 Best Albums of the 2020s So Far.
