Eric Clapton ends Madrid show early after vinyl record thrown at him onstage
Eric Clapton stopped his Madrid concert early after a vinyl record was thrown at him during his May 7 show at Movistar Arena.
Eric Clapton cut short his Madrid concert on Thursday night after a fan threw a vinyl record at him while he was onstage at the Movistar Arena.
The incident happened as the guitarist was bringing his set to a close on May 7, during his current European tour. According to reports from the show, the record hit Clapton in the chest as he finished Cocaine. He had been due back for an encore of Before You Accuse Me, but did not return to the stage.

Clapton had already worked through a set that included Badge, Key To The Highway, I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man, I Shot The Sheriff, Kind Hearted Woman Blues, Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out, Golden Ring, Layla, Tears In Heaven, Holy Mother, Cross Road Blues, Little Queen Of Spades and Cocaine.
He is scheduled to return to the UK this summer for a one-off show at Sandringham Estate on August 23. Ronnie Wood and His Band and Andy Fairweather Low and The Low Riders are also on the bill. Remaining tickets are available here.
Clapton’s most recent album, Meanwhile, arrived in 2024 and featured Jeff Beck, Van Morrison, Bradley Walker, Judith Hill, Daniel Santiago and Simon Climie.
Last year, MTV marked the 30th anniversary of Clapton’s Unplugged performance from 1992 with a special broadcast. The album went on to sell more than 26 million copies and became the best-selling live album of all time.
That intimate set reworked tracks from across his catalogue, including acoustic versions of Layla and Tears In Heaven, while also nodding to the blues standards that shaped his career, among them Before You Accuse Me and Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out.
In 2024, Clapton also criticised the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, despite being inducted three times. “I think of it as a frat boys club that happened to lure [me] in,” he said. “It’s not a place for rebels. It’s establishment stuff.”
