Father John Misty shares baroque new single ‘The Payoff’ and adds London headline show
Father John Misty drops ‘The Payoff’ and announces an “Evening With” London show at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on June 12.
Father John Misty has released a new single, ‘The Payoff’, and confirmed a London headline date for this summer.
The latest track from Joshua Tillman follows ‘The Old Law’, which arrived in January. ‘The Payoff’ leans into harpsichord and vintage-rock texture, with touches that nod to psych rock and late-period John Lennon. As with the earlier single, Tillman wrote the song and worked with Drew Erickson on the arrangement and production.
Michael Harris mixed and engineered the track at Fivestar Studios in Topanga, California, and Adam Ayan mastered it.

Tillman has also announced an “Evening With Father John Misty” show at London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on Friday, June 12. The date is being added after his planned appearance at LIDO Festival in the capital, scheduled for the same day, was cancelled last month because of concerns about the grounds at Victoria Park.

He will also play a run of North American dates in May, with tickets available find tickets here, followed by a series of European shows in June, with tickets here. He has also recently been announced for All Things Go in Maryland.
Earlier in 2025, Father John Misty marked the 10th anniversary of his second album, I Love You, Honeybear, with a remastered reissue. He also joked about the timing landing on the same day as Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, writing: “Today of all days.”
His last studio album was Mahashmashana, released in 2024. NME gave it four stars, writing: “The lush ‘Mahashmashana’ doesn’t quite mainline the zeitgeist in the same way that ‘Honeybear’ and ‘Pure Comedy’ did. Then again, there’s something to be said, in 2024, for logging off in favour of self-reflection.
“On the swooning ‘Mental Health’, Misty rejects the hive mind, concluding that his own particular ‘insanity‘ is ‘indispensable‘. Whoever the folk he is underneath that beard, the good Father can’t help but share words of wisdom.”
