Dua Lipa Files $15 Million Lawsuit Against Samsung Over Alleged Unauthorized Use of Her Image

Dua Lipa is suing Samsung for $15 million, accusing the company of using her image on TV boxes without permission.

Dua Lipa filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung on Friday, May 8, accusing the company of using her image and likeness to sell TVs without permission or compensation.

The complaint says Samsung “prominently featured” an unauthorized image of the pop star on television boxes sold in 2025 and 2026. The filing names copyright infringement, trademark infringement and violation of Dua Lipa’s right of publicity.

Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP filed the civil action documents with the United States District Court in the Central District of California. According to the complaint, Dua Lipa first became aware of the use in June 2025 and then demanded that Samsung stop.

“Samsung has refused to comply with Ms. Lipa’s repeated demands that it cease and desist from infringing on her rights by the continued exploitation of the Infringing Products,” the firm said in the filing. “Samsung’s response has been dismissive and callous, and the Infringing Products remain on the market to this day, still being sold throughout the country in ongoing acts of willful infringement.”

The lawsuit also says Samsung’s conduct has caused “substantial, manifest, and irreparable harm” while benefiting the company financially. It adds that Lipa is seeking to stop the alleged conduct and recover damages for what it calls Samsung’s “theft of her intellectual and personal identity assets.”

The court documents include an image of Dua Lipa on a Samsung TV box. The complaint says the image is registered to the artist and that she retains sole ownership of the copyright. It describes the photo as one taken backstage at Austin City Limits in 2024.

Also included are social media photos posted by fans showing the Samsung product. One quoted post reads, “I wasn’t even planning on buying a tv but I saw the box so I decided to get it.”

The filing notes Lipa’s history of approved brand partnerships, citing campaigns with Puma, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Porsche, Apple, Chanel, Tiffany & Co., the 2026 Winter Olympics, Bvlgari and Nespresso.

Her music career is also laid out in the complaint. It points to two albums, 2020’s Future Nostalgia, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and 2024’s Radical Optimism, which debuted at No. 2, along with three Grammy wins.
