Paycheque shared “Temporary Love,” featuring Jane Penny of TOPS, ahead of their self-titled debut album out 6/12.

Paycheque have shared “Temporary Love,” the latest track from their self-titled debut album, out 6/12 on Mansions And Millions. It follows “Generic Actress,” the record’s lead single, and lands as the duo’s strongest showing so far.
The Los Angeles pair lean into a funky, lo-fi version of an ’80s pop fantasy here, with a sound that recalls Chromatics meeting Men I Trust. Jorge Elbrecht mixed the song. In a statement, Paycheque said Jane Penny of TOPS contributed flute and background vocals, helping finish a track they first started writing early on.
“This was one of the first songs we ever started writing together, and it was the last one we finished for the record. Jane Penny from TOPS came over to our house and graciously contributed some flute and background vocals to this song, and that really helped tie it together. This song is about embracing impermanence. We think this song has a bit of a city pop flavor in terms of the arrangement and nods heavily to YMO with the vocoder backing vocals on the chorus.”
That city pop reference does fit. The track has the kind of arrangement that makes the comparison immediate once it is named. Paycheque also shared a video for “Temporary Love,” directed by Alison Goldfarb.
Paycheque is out 6/12 on Mansions And Millions. Pre-order it here.
