Widowspeak Preview New Album Roses With “Soft Cover”

Widowspeak have shared another track from their upcoming album, Roses. “Soft Cover” arrives after the earlier singles “If You Change” and “No Driver,” which already pointed to a strong run for Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas.

The duo, who are married, have built the song around Hamilton’s vocals and Thomas’ guitar work. Hamilton described “Soft Cover” as “about infatuation: wanting and daydreaming about someone as you’re going about your day… even if, and maybe especially if, you’ve been with them a long time.”

Widowspeak recorded the track at the Old Carpet Factory on the Greek island of Hydra. Hamilton said the session included a Rhodes that had to make an unusual trip to get there. “We brought in a Rhodes for this one, so it came in a car from Athens, then took a boat, then a donkey carried it up to the studio,” she said.

Roses is out 6/5 on Captured Tracks. Pre-order it.
