Madonna, Shakira and BTS to Headline First-Ever World Cup Final Halftime Show

Madonna, Shakira and BTS will perform at the first-ever World Cup final halftime show at MetLife Stadium on July 19.

Madonna, Shakira and BTS will perform at halftime of the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday, July 19, Global Citizen announced Thursday, May 14.

The match at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will be the first World Cup final to include a halftime show. Billboard understands the performance is set to run 11 minutes.

The announcement arrived in a social video featuring Coldplay’s Chris Martin alongside Sesame Street’s Elmo and Cookie Monster, plus Kermit, Miss Piggie and other Muppets characters. The clip also includes a FaceTime call to BTS.

BTS perform at the GNP Seguros Stadium as part of their ARIRANG Tour, on May 7, 2025 in Mexico City.

Shakira was already tied to this World Cup cycle through her official 2026 song, “Dai Dai,” with Burna Boy. It is her second official FIFA World Cup song, after “Waka, Waka (This Time for Africa)” for the 2010 tournament in South Africa. She is set to begin the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour 2026 in June, with New Jersey and New York dates on July 14 and July 20 bookending the final.

Madonna also has a busy July ahead. Her album Confessions II, a sequel to 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor, arrives July 3. She has already released the lead single “Bring Your Love,” a duet with Sabrina Carpenter, which they performed live for the first time during Coachella weekend two last month, along with “I Feel So Free.”

BTS returned to music this year with ARIRANG, released March 20. It was the group’s first project since each member completed military service. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and held the top spot for three straight weeks, marking the group’s first multi-week chart-topping run. The band launched the ARIRANG WORLD TOUR in Goyang, South Korea, last month before bringing it to the U.S. on April 25. More international dates are scheduled through next March.

The halftime show is being curated by Global Citizen and Martin, with proceeds set to support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. The fund aims to raise $100 million to expand access to education and football for children worldwide. It has already collected more than $30 million, and $1 from every World Cup ticket sold will go to the fund during the tournament. Global Citizen and Martin also worked together on last year’s Club World Cup final halftime show, headlined by Doja Cat, J Balvin and Tems.

Last week, FIFA announced that Katy Perry, Future, Tyla, LISA and Anitta will perform during the opening ceremonies for the 2026 World Cup across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Perry will headline the opening ceremony in Los Angeles before the U.S. men’s national team faces Paraguay on June 12. Future is also scheduled to perform at SoFi Stadium with DJ Sanjoy.

Madonna and Shakira have both previously headlined the Super Bowl halftime show. Madonna did it in 2012, while Shakira co-headlined with Jennifer Lopez in 2020.
