Blood Red Shoes have shared ‘Dead Air’, a new track written for Supermassive Games’ sci-fi horror title Directive 8020.

Blood Red Shoes have released a new single, ‘Dead Air’, written for Directive 8020, the new sci-fi horror game from Supermassive Games.

The title launches later today, May 12. On Steam, it is described as a cinematic horror adventure that “blends intense survival gameplay with meaningful choices and a branching storyline.” The game is set on a damaged colony ship, the Cassiopeia, after it crash lands on Tau Ceti f, 12 light years from home.

According to the game’s description on Steam, Earth is “dying” and humanity is “running out of time.” The crew soon discovers they are not alone. They are being hunted by an alien organism that can mimic its prey, and the story centers on a survival choice that could put everyone on Earth at risk.

The soundtrack has been composed by Supermassive Games regular Jason Graves. Blood Red Shoes also contributed an original track for the project, with ‘Dead Air’ now available to hear below.

In an Instagram post, the band said Supermassive Games brought them into the project after showing them what was in development. Instagram

“We were approached by Supermassive Games about their new game Directive 8020 so we went into their offices and got shown a load of what they were working on,” the band explained on Instagram.

“As two people who know almost nothing about video games we were surprised to find out where the culture is at. This game is more like a playable horror movie and the atmosphere of it fit perfectly with what we were making on [2022 album] ‘Ghosts On Tape’ We came out of there and made ‘Dead Air’ for them using some rough ideas we had sketched out with [producer] Tom Dalgety while recording our last album.”

The Brighton duo marked their 20th anniversary in 2024 with a run of shows. They returned earlier this year with the single ‘Screams’ and are set to tour the UK and Europe in October.

In other news, Amazon Prime Video has announced that Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul has joined the cast of Fallout for season three.
