Boards Of Canada Return: “Introit” and “Prophecy At 1420 MHz” Lead New Album Inferno

Boards Of Canada release the lead single 'Introit'/'Prophecy At 1420 MHz' ahead of Inferno, their first album since Tomorrow's Harvest, out 5/29 on Warp.

Boards Of Canada have issued the lead single from Inferno, their first album since Tomorrow’s Harvest in 2013.

Last month the Scottish duo mailed a mysterious VHS tape to fans, shared an excerpt of new music, and officially announced the album.

The single comprises the opening two tracks from Inferno. “Introit” is a 36-second intro. “Prophecy At 1420 MHz” follows with an ominous midtempo groove and computerized narration.

It does not mirror the hip-hop-infused electronic psychedelia of their early work, nor the more searching ambient textures of their later material. For listeners who have been awaiting new music from the group, these first pieces provide a direct look at what the album will unfold.

The release is accompanied by a video directed by Robert Beatty, the artist and designer behind several noted album covers.

Inferno is out 5/29 on Warp. Seven worldwide album premieres, the Inferno Sessions, will take place on 5/22 in Tokyo, Berlin, Barcelona, London, Glasgow, New York and Los Angeles.
