Bonnie Tyler hospitalised in Portugal for emergency intestinal surgery

Bonnie Tyler was hospitalised in Faro for emergency intestinal surgery on May 6; reps say she is stable and recuperating ahead of a May 22 tour date.

Bonnie Tyler was admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, for emergency intestinal surgery, her representatives said on Wednesday, May 6.

Tyler’s team posted a statement on her official website confirming she was taken to a Faro hospital in the Algarve, where she owns a home.

“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,” the statement read. “The surgery went well, and she is now recuperating. We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”

The statement did not specify the cause of the emergency. Outlets including the Daily Mail have reported that Tyler experienced intense abdominal pain and suffered a perforated intestine. More details are expected to be released at a later date.

The update arrives days before the start of Tyler’s European tour, due to begin in Malta on May 22. At the time of writing, that opening date is still listed as going ahead as planned.

Earlier this year, in interviews conducted before the hospital admission, Tyler spoke about her health and touring. In March she told Hello!:

“I’m fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I’m really enjoying doing the shows. I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything.”

She also told The Mirror, via Wales Online, that she has “slowed down” over the years but has no plans to retire.
