The milestone applies to the performance video for the 1991 ballad that anchored Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The song was an immediate commercial force after its release.
On the Billboard Hot 100, “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” reached No. 1 and stayed there for seven weeks. In the U.K., the track registered an unprecedented 16 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, a longer run than any other song in OCC history.
The single opened Adams’s Waking Up the Neighbours. The album topped the Official U.K. Albums Chart and the ARIA Chart, and it peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200.
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was a box office success in 1991, finishing as the year’s second highest-grossing film with $390 million, behind Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and outgrossing the separate Patrick Bergin-starring Robin Hood released the same year.
Adams first joined YouTube’s Billion Views Club with another ballad, 1993’s “Please Forgive Me."
“(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” was written by Bryan Adams, Robert “Mutt” Lange and Michael Kamen. Its official black-and-white video was filmed in Miami, Florida in 1992 and directed by Andy Morahan. The video appears below.
