Charli XCX releases new b-side ‘I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day And Night’ after dropping ‘Rock Music’ on Friday.
Charli XCX has released a new b-side, I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day And Night, following Friday’s (May 8) arrival of Rock Music.
The new track comes with a lo-fi black-and-white video that shows Charli moving through hallways before ending up in a dance studio. The song itself is a quieter companion piece to Rock Music, which pushed away from the club feel of 2024’s Brat and leaned into crunchy guitars.
In the opening line, she sings,
“Maybe we can become each other?”She later asks,
“I wonder if I just want you as my best friend, or maybe if I’m a really late bloomer.”Charli also delivers the lines,
“if I maybe could be gay/But come on, look at me, I’m probably not”and
“if you were actually gay/Or if that’s somеthing you just say for your career.”The chorus settles on the title refrain:
“I keep thinking ’bout you every single day/I keep thinking ’bout you every single night.”
In an Instagram caption attached to the video, Charli said:
“i went to Kyoto for six weeks to shoot a film. while we were there, i made this video with aidan [Zamiri]. only available on vinyl & here on b.sides. so rip the audio if you want it xx.”
Rock Music arrived last Friday with a grungy video that featured A.G. Cook, Finn Keane, formerly known as Easyfun, and Charli’s husband, The 1975’s George Daniel, as her rock band.
Last month, Charli’s team confirmed she was finishing her new album. Around the same time, British Vogue previewed the line,
“I think the dance floor is dead, so now we’re making rock music”which led to speculation that the record would move in a heavier direction. Charli later pushed back on that reading, saying,
“I never said I was making a rock album.”
In the same British Vogue interview, she said she did not want to make Brat 2.0.
“If I’d made another album that felt more dance-leaning, it would have felt really hard, really sad,”she said.
“What’s interesting for me is to bend the possibilities of what my perspective on that could be”.
Her last studio album was 2024’s Brat, which became a cultural touchpoint and helped define “Brat Summer.” Since then, she has released a soundtrack album for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights.
Beyond that project, Charli has also written music for the A24 film Mother Mary, starring Anne Hathaway, appeared in her own mockumentary The Moment, taken a role in the romance Erupcja, and signed on for fantasy film 100 Nights Of Hero. She also played a comic version of herself in the TV series Overcompensating, and was recently cast alongside Supergirl star Milly Alcock in a new horror film directed by Takashi Miike.
She will return to the stage in August for her headline debut at Reading & Leeds, where she tops the bill alongside Fontaines D.C., Raye, Florence + The Machine, Dave and Chase & Status. Visit here for tickets and more information.
