London band Ebbb announced their debut album Shallow Hits, due July 10 on Ninja Tune, and released the single "Now You Know", which the band says began as a riff-led instrumental and grew with vocals and a punchy live drum groove.
Ebbb announced their debut album Shallow Hits, due July 10 on Ninja Tune, and released a new single, “Now You Know”.
The London band, formed around the Brixton Windmill scene, has issued singles “Home Ground” and “Book That You Like” in recent months. “Home Ground” is included on the new album.
The new single is driven by syncopated live drums and guitar parts that draw on African picking patterns. The track began as a riff-led instrumental and developed layers of vocals and a punchy drum pocket in the studio.
“Now You Know” started life as a playful, riff-led instrumental. Each layer brought the song to life – first the vocals with lyrics that depict obsessive love, and then the punchiness of the live drum groove, which really tied the song together in the studio. The song is the most playful and optimistic on the album.
