Floating Points Shares 13-Minute New Track “Falling To Earth”

Floating Points has released the 13-minute "Falling To Earth," a new collaboration with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra from his score for Mere Mortals, now running in San Francisco before dates in London and Edinburgh.

Floating Points has released Falling To Earth, a new 13-minute composition created with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra. The track arrives as part of his score for Mere Mortals, the San Francisco Ballet production that premiered in January 2024.

Sam Shepherd, the UK producer and composer behind Floating Points, has moved between club records, soundtrack work, and large-scale orchestral collaborations across his career. His 2021 project Promises with Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra remains a key reference point, and Falling To Earth returns to that long-form, orchestral-electronic territory.

A new run of Mere Mortals opened in San Francisco last month, with Shepherd performing live during the production. The current run closes Sunday. The ballet is also scheduled to appear in London and Edinburgh later this summer.

On the track itself, tense strings and percussion lines push against a largely electronic foundation, building a restless pulse across its full runtime. Falling To Earth follows his recent single Corner Of My Eye and recent collaborations with Fred again.. and Caribou.
