Foo Fighters performed ‘Window’ on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, as Dave Grohl discussed the band’s new album, advice to daughter Violet, and the decision to continue making music after Nirvana.

Foo Fighters appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week and performed Window, a track from their new album Your Favorite Toy, released last month.
The live version leaned into the song’s slower mood. The band played under warm yellow lights while Dave Grohl delivered the opening lines in a restrained vocal before pushing into the chorus: “Then I saw your face/ there in the window/ You were a window cleaner letting in the sun.”
Grohl also sat down with Colbert for an interview focused on the new album and his daughter Violet’s own debut release, which arrived around the same period as Foo Fighters’ 12th LP.
Asked what advice he gave Violet, Grohl said the main point was to keep the focus on the work itself. “The reward has to be the music itself,” he said. He added: “Don’t wish any of this away and don’t get too ahead of yourself. Be in the moment right now.”
In the same conversation, Grohl revisited the period after Nirvana ended in 1994 following Kurt Cobain’s death. He said he initially questioned whether he wanted to continue at all. “I didn’t know if I wanted to continue playing music,” he said, calling that period “a really dark, emotional experience.”
Grohl said a trip to Ireland helped shift his thinking. After seeing someone wearing a Cobain shirt, he took it as a sign to move forward and start again. “I need to keep going,” he said. “I have so much reverence and respect for the past, but I need to have a future.”
The TV appearance arrives as the band ramps up touring behind Your Favorite Toy. Foo Fighters are set to play a European stadium run, including two nights at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium in late June, followed by major dates in North America. The group has also announced Australia and New Zealand shows for late 2026 and early 2027.
