Green Day-Inspired Comedy ‘NIMRODS’ Set for Theaters This Summer

Green Day-inspired comedy NIMRODS, produced by the band, will open in theaters Aug. 14 after premiering at TIFF 2025.

Green Day’s new film project is headed to theaters this summer. Inaugural Entertainment said Tuesday, May 12, that NIMRODS, a comedy inspired by the band and named after its 1997 Billboard 200 top 10 album Nimrod, will open Aug. 14.

The company also said it is teaming with Legion M, the fan-owned entertainment firm, on the release. The film is directed by Lee Kirk and follows three friends on a cross-country trip to Los Angeles after they incorrectly think their band is opening for Green Day at a New Year’s Eve show. Its story draws from the band’s years living out of a tour van.

The cast includes Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace and Fred Armisen, along with Kylr Coffman, Ryan Foust, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Keen Ruffalo, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Bobby Lee and Sean Gunn.

Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool are producing, along with Ryan Kroft, Michael Rapino of Live Nation Entertainment, Tim Perell of Process and Jonathan Daniel.

“Green Day wouldn’t exist without the fans, and we’re excited to give those fans the opportunity to own a stake in the film as we work with the incredibly talented teams at Inaugural, Live Nation and Green Day to bring it to audiences,” Legion M co-founders Jeff Annison and Paul Scanlan said in the release.

NIMRODS first premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival under the title New Year’s Rev.
