Helado Negro Shares Cover of Sly and the Family Stone’s “Dance to the Music”

Helado Negro has released a cover of Sly and the Family Stone’s 1967 classic “Dance to the Music,” continuing a busy stretch after last fall’s The Last Sound On Earth EP.

Helado Negro has released a new cover of Sly and the Family Stone’s 1967 single Dance to the Music, following a run of recent collaborations and standalone tracks.

Roberto Carlos Lange, who records as Helado Negro, has stayed active since last fall’s The Last Sound On Earth EP. In recent months, he has also appeared on releases tied to Irreversible Entanglements and Vines, moving between experimental and groove-based projects.

His take on Dance to the Music keeps the song’s rhythmic core but filters it through his softer, hazier production style. On Bandcamp, Lange wrote in all caps: “I’VE LOVED SLY STONE FROM THE VERY FIRST TIME I HEARD THIS SONG! I HOPE THIS SONG INVITES YOU TO LISTEN TO EVERYTHING HE’S EVER DONE. DANCE 2 THA MUSIC!”

The track arrives with cover art by Robert Beatty.
