Kacey Musgraves Disguises Herself as a Giant Armadillo to Hunt Down Middle Of Nowhere in Stores

Kacey Musgraves shared a new social video of herself in an armadillo costume searching Walmart, Barnes & Noble, and Target for her new album, Middle Of Nowhere, released last week.

Kacey Musgraves posted a new social video on Monday, May 4, showing herself in a full-body armadillo costume as she searches for copies of her new album Middle Of Nowhere at major retailers.

The clip arrives days after the album’s release and frames the rollout as a prank-style undercover run. Middle Of Nowhere is Musgraves’ seventh studio LP and follows 2024’s Deeper Well. The project includes collaborations with Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, and Billy Strings.

In the video, Musgraves moves through a Walmart aisle in costume and asks an employee whether the “new Kacey Musgraves” album is in stock. The staff member replies, “I don’t recognise that name.” She later finds the vinyl herself and gathers multiple copies.

The video then cuts to Barnes & Noble, where she continues the in-store search and pauses to read armadillo facts. She later heads to Target for another check. The final shot shows her lying on her back in the road like roadkill, ending the bit with a deadpan punchline.

Musgraves previewed material from Middle Of Nowhere during a surprise Coachella 2026 set, her first appearance at the festival since 2019.

The album was recently reviewed by NME, which called it one of her “most thematically cohesive records,” highlighting its focus on solitude and stripped-back writing.
