Kehlani Captures First No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums
Kehlani's self-titled album debuts at No. 1 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with 69,000 units, including 45,000 streaming units. Single Folded hit the Hot 100 top 10 and led Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for five weeks.
Kehlani has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with their self-titled release. The album arrived April 24 via Tsunami Mob/Atlantic. It opened with 69,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the April 24-30 tracking week, according to Luminate.
Streaming supplied 45,000 of those units. The songs on the album generated 45.37 million official on-demand streams. Traditional album sales accounted for 24,000 units. Track-equivalent sales were negligible. One album unit equals one album sale, 10 individual track sales, or 1,000 paid-subscription or 2,500 ad-supported streams of songs on the album.
Before this, Kehlani’s highest placement on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums was No. 2, reached twice: SexySweetSavage in February 2017 and It Was Good Until It Wasn’t in May 2020. The new No. 1 extends a run of seven consecutive top 10 entries on the chart.
The album also opened at No. 1 on Top R&B Albums, Kehlani’s fourth leader on that listing, and began at No. 4 on the all-genre Billboard 200.
The single ‘Folded’ continues to drive the album’s momentum. It became Kehlani’s first Hot 100 top 10, peaking at No. 6 in January. It also delivered Kehlani’s first No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, where it reigned for five weeks. On Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay the track has spent 15 weeks at No. 1, one week short of the 16-week mark set by Future’s 2022 single ‘Wait for U’ featuring Drake and Tems.
On the Hot R&B Songs chart, Kehlani places 12 titles among the 25 positions. Ten of those 12 are first-time entries. With this activity, Kehlani reaches 60 career appearances on the Hot R&B Songs chart.
