mgk says he was punched and punched back, recounts a failed Corey Taylor feature offer and the 2021 origin of their feud on Chris Garza’s May 5 podcast.

mgk told Suicide Silence guitarist Chris Garza on the May 5 episode of Garza’s podcast that the exchange with Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor began with a physical altercation. “What do you do if someone punches you in the face?” he asked during the interview. “I got punched in the face and I punched back, and that’s crazy?”
The conversation traced the line of the public dispute and its fallout. mgk said the fight damaged a friendship with Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson. That relationship has since been repaired. “Now me and Sid are back cool. And Corey and I haven’t had a chance to speak,” he said. “We were both tripping.”
“I got punched in the face and I punched back, and that’s crazy?”
mgk placed the origin of the feud in 2021, after Taylor publicly criticized artists who switch to rock, suggesting they had “failed” in their previous styles and adding, “I think he knows who he is.” mgk said the back-and-forth escalated onstage at Riot Fest, where he called out Taylor directly. “You wanna know what I’m really happy that I’m not doing? Being 50 years old wearing a f—ing weird mask on a f—ing stage, talking sh–,” mgk said at the time.
He reiterated on Garza’s show that he has “no remorse” for responding. “Like I said, it’s a punch in the face, what’re you gonna do? You punch back,” mgk said, adding that public opinion later turned against him. “It’s the same thing Corey would’ve done.”
mgk also described a failed collaboration that contributed to the tension. He said he invited Taylor to feature on the deluxe edition of his 2020 album Tickets to My Downfall, specifically on the track “Can’t Look Back.” As a fan, he told Taylor, “I think it would be really cool to see you do this type of verse on this song.” Taylor declined and later withdrew from the idea. After the album’s success, mgk said he watched Taylor criticize him publicly.
mgk noted he had positive experiences working with other rock figures, citing his collaboration with Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst. The Durst feature on “Fix Ur Face” recently topped Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart, he said, and he had hoped for a similar outcome with Taylor.
“I said, ‘I think it would be really cool to see you do this type of verse on this song,’ as a fan,”
Despite the ongoing tension with Taylor, mgk closed the Garza interview by saying he remains a fan of Slipknot while stressing he “did not appreciate what happened.” The two have not publicly reconciled.
