Mick Jagger says he’s been listening to Zara Larsson since 2018

Mick Jagger has said he has been a Zara Larsson fan since 2018.

The Rolling Stones frontman made the comment during an appearance on the Today show earlier this week, when he was asked which contemporary artists he’s been listening to lately.

“My son said to me, ‘Oh, Zara Larsson is having a big comeback.’ I said, ‘But she never went away for me,’” Jagger said. He added that his interest goes back to Larsson’s 2018 single “Ruin My Life.” “When I’m in that mood, that’s what I like,” he said.

Larsson appeared on the same programme on Friday (May 8), when the hosts played her the clip. “I can’t believe it,” she said after watching it. “It’s so beautiful to just see how everyone’s coming on this journey.”

Larsson released her fifth studio album last summer, led by the singles “Pretty Ugly,” “Midnight Sun” and “Crush.” Earlier this month, she followed it with the remix album Midnight Sun: Girls Trip, which includes contributions from PinkPantheress, Shakira, Tyla, Robyn, Madison Beer, Kehlani, Bambii and others.

NME gave the record 4.5 stars in a review that read: “Coupled with the undimmed effervescence of the original album, ‘Midnight Sun: Girls Trip’ is a journey worth taking. And for Larsson, the doors to the “Khia asylum” are rapidly fading from sight in the rear-view mirror.

Larsson is due to play a run of festivals this summer, including Mad Cool, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Lollapalooza, Montreux Jazz, Sziget, Pinkpop, Open’er, All Points East and Parklife.

She also joined PinkPantheress at Coachella this month and recently appeared on Tyla’s new single “She Did It Again.”

Jagger, meanwhile, and The Rolling Stones officially announced their upcoming album Foreign Tongues earlier this month. The record is set to feature guest appearances from Paul McCartney, Robert Smith, Steve Winwood and the band’s late drummer Charlie Watts.

It has also been revealed that the album will include a cover of an Amy Winehouse classic.
