Muse release apocalyptic video for “Cryogen” from upcoming album The Wow! Signal

Muse released an apocalyptic video for "Cryogen" ahead of their album The Wow! Signal, due June 26. A 2026 North American tour is also confirmed.

Muse have released the apocalyptic new music video for “Cryogen”, a single from their upcoming album The Wow! Signal.

The track arrived last month after its live debut at the bands intimate Brixton Academy show. It follows 2023s “Unravelling” and the recent lead single “Be With You”, which launched their tenth LP campaign.

Directed by Elliott Gonzo, the clip is set on Jupiters frozen moon Europa. The band perform at the base of a red waterfall while frontman Matt Bellamy wanders a blistering polar desert searching for the ringlike aircraft that appeared in the “Be With You” video. The UFO launches out of the sea and emits a piercing ray of red light before the scene cuts to black.

The song nods to Muses earlier work, recalling the gothic space rock of 2001s Origin Of Symmetry and the widescreen stadium sound of 2006s Black Holes & Revelations. It features a thunderous breakdown and production by live member Dan Lancaster (Bring Me The Horizon, Blink-182). Additional production is credited to Aleks von Korff.

“Winter’s end, she’s Europa, I’m a cracked interloper / Icicles pierce my heart so cruel and quiet / Loneliness, she left me trembling in a polar desert / Wilderness, I’m breaking…Cryogen, I can never cry again / Cryogen, I’m freezing over.”

According to a press release, the album takes its title from one of modern astronomys enduring mysteries: “a powerful 72-second radio burst detected in 1977 originating from the constellation Sagittarius with a bandwidth and intensity that suggested a possible extraterrestrial source”. The statement adds that the astronomer who found the anomaly circled the sequence “6EQUJ5” and wrote “WOW!” on the printout.

The record is described as exploring “a mix of cosmic mystery, existential hope, and the exhilarating possibility of contact with something far greater than ourselves”.

The Wow! Signal is due on June 26. Muse have also announced a 2026 North American arena tour with Bloc Party, The Temper Trap and Portugal. The Man. UK and European dates are expected to be announced shortly. At their recent London gig, Bellamy teased the band would “be back in November.”
