Overmono Announce New Album Pure Devotion, Share Lead Single “Lockup”

Overmono have announced Pure Devotion, the Welsh brothers’ follow-up to Good Lies, which arrived in 2023 and earned Album Of The Week at Stereogum while landing at No. 2 on the site’s list of the best electronic albums of that year.

The new record arrives this summer, with the lead single “Lockup” out today. The duo, Tom and Ed Russell, also shared a note alongside the announcement, describing their process as “having fun,” working together in the studio, and “a never ending process of exploring new ways of making tunes.” They said the album was made to capture “the physical space” of their studios, using a range of recording and processing methods, including re-amping vocals through an old tannoy speaker in the basement and sending synths through “an old train station announcement speaker from the 1930’s.” They also said they ran tape over magnets, blew up speakers, used an overclocked FX unit from Bromley, and oven-baked a cymbal covered in coffee grounds, crisps and vinegar, crediting Sylvia Massy for that last idea.

In the same message, Overmono thanked the artists who appear on the album, including Rollo, John Holt, Kindora and Ruthven, as well as the artists they sampled and the engineers they worked with. They closed by thanking listeners for taking the time to hear the record.

Pure Devotion includes 11 tracks:
