Phoebe Bridgers debuts three new songs at first solo show since 2023 in New Mexico
Phoebe Bridgers returned to solo touring in Roswell, New Mexico, debuting three new songs and teasing what may come next.
Phoebe Bridgers returned to solo touring on Friday night, playing her first headline show in three years at The Liberty in Roswell, New Mexico, and using the set to debut three new songs.
The 400-capacity venue date marked Bridgers’ first solo live appearance since she opened for Taylor Swift across three nights at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in May 2023. Fans at the Roswell show were given an exclusive card, which appears to fit together with others to form artwork for whatever comes next.
Bridgers worked through songs from her two solo albums, Stranger In The Alps and Punisher, before airing the new material. Those in attendance described the unreleased tracks as “very sad folk” with harmonica arrangements.
There was no album title or release date announced, but Bridgers reportedly told the crowd she viewed the night as a “test” for future shows and whatever follows. Fans also pointed to the event’s alien and UFO imagery, along with lyrics printed on new merch, as a possible clue to the next project’s direction.
Bridgers, who wore a Black Sabbath shirt, stayed after the show to meet fans and sign autographs.
Social media posts from attendees said the stage had an alien theme, that piano, guitar and percussion were used, and that Bridgers was trying new vocal approaches. One post also noted that Maxine was brought out during the set.
Bridgers has not played a solo show since 2023, but she has stayed active with boygenius, the trio with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker. The group announced a hiatus after completing The Record in 2023, which NME named album of the year.
Elsewhere, Bridgers was the subject of rumors last year linking her to Primetime, an upcoming A24 film starring Robert Pattinson. The film reportedly follows a journalist played by Pattinson who reshapes television after entering the undercover world of crime, and is said to be inspired by To Catch A Predator. It is due out in September.
Bridgers’ 2020 album Punisher was placed at number five on NME’s list of the best albums of that year, with the site praising its self-production, collaboration and focus on solitude.
