Selena Gomez Praises Martin Short as “Nothing Short of a Legend” at Marty, Life Is Short Premiere

Selena Gomez attended the Los Angeles premiere of the Lawrence Kasdan-directed documentary Marty, Life Is Short on Wednesday, May 6, and used an Instagram post to praise her Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short ahead of the films Netflix release on May 12.

Gomez, 33, posted what the original caption called a series of photos posted a series of pics from the premiere and from their time on Only Murders in the Building. Short, 76, is the subject of the documentary, which will begin streaming on Netflix on Tuesday, May 12.

Her Instagram message singled out Shorts career and outlook. “This man who doesnt have social media is truly outstandingly witty, smart and has given the most wonderful attributes to our world of comedy,” Gomez wrote. “Some may not know much that follow me. But Martin Short is nothing short of a legend.”

“His outlook on life is simply joyful. I cried, laughed and empathized his entire story Check it out on @netflix now please. Worth every minute. 🎬📽️🥲 -thank you Marty for your inspiring and tremendous heart that makes me forever happy.”

The Instagram reel included red carpet photos of Gomez and Short holding hands and looking at each other, a group hug that also featured Steve Martin, and behind-the-scenes moments from the Only Murders set. The pair have worked together across five seasons of the Hulu series.

Deadline reported that other attendees at the May 6 Los Angeles premiere included Kate Hudson, Eugene Levy, Billy Crystal, director Lawrence Kasdan, Paul Shaffer, Netflix chief Ted Sarandos, Andrea Martin and Gomezs husband, music producer Benny Blanco Deadline.

The documentary traces Shorts life and career and features appearances from Levy, the late Catherine OHara, comedian John Mulaney, Tom Hanks and, as noted in the premiere coverage, Martins longtime friend and stand-up touring partner, Martin.

People reported that Shorts sons, Oliver, 40, and Henry, 36, attended the premiere. The familys appearance marked their first public outing since the February death by suicide of Shorts daughter Katherine People.

Only Murders in the Building was renewed in October for a sixth season, which is slated to arrive sometime this year.
