Shearwater Announce The New World, Share “Daydream Unbeliever” and “More And More”

Shearwater have announced The New World, their first album since The Great Awakening arrived in 2022. Along with the news, the Austin indie rock band has shared two new songs, “Daydream Unbeliever” and “More And More.”

The New World is self-released with help from Secretly Distribution, marking a shift after six albums on Sub Pop and Matador. The record was also crowdfunded and self-produced.

Frontman Jonathan Meiburg said the two songs emerged from a fraught headspace.

“If you’re like us, you wake up feeling like the world’s on fire, and hoping you could reckon with it if you knew where to begin,” he says. “‘Daydream Unbeliever’ and ‘More And More’ come from this uneasy place. If they help you feel a little less insane, welcome home.”

“Daydream Unbeliever” includes Xiu Xiu’s Jamie Stewart on gong. The album also features Shahzad Ismaily, Doug Wieselman, Farouz Zriek, Leo Abrahams, Mamadou Kouyate, Mahamadou Tounkara, Moctar Kouyate of Malian group Ngoni Ba, and Thor Harris.

The New World is out 7/31 via Polyborus / Secretly. Pre-order it here.
