Steven Knight’s Oasis documentary to open in IMAX and stream on Disney+ after limited theatrical run
Steven Knight's Oasis film will run in IMAX from Sept. 11 before streaming on Disney+ worldwide and on Disney+ with Hulu in the US in 2026.
The as-yet-untitled Oasis documentary overseen and produced by Steven Knight will receive a limited theatrical release, including IMAX screens, from September 11 before streaming on Disney+ worldwide and on Disney+ alongside Hulu in the US at a later date in 2026.
Directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelance, the filmmakers behind the LCD Soundsystem documentary Shut Up And Play The Hits, the film follows Noel and Liam Gallagher as they return for the Live ’25 reunion tour. It promises exclusive rehearsal footage, backstage access, onstage material and the first joint interviews with the brothers in more than 25 years.
Sources say the project also contains previously unseen footage of Liam and Noel Gallagher‘s first meeting ahead of the comeback shows.
“I genuinely cannot wait for the world to see this film. I believe it captures the spirit and emotion of a global cultural moment and does justice to the wit and genius of two exceptional people. I wanted to tell the story of the brothers and the band, but just as important, the story of the fans whose lives the music has touched and sometimes changed forever. It is also the story of how music and songwriting can unite generations, cultures, countries and in a time of spite and division, give us all some reason to hope.”
Knight has described the project as more than a concert film, saying it “is a documentary with a plot” and revealing earlier cuts ran as long as four hours before edits. “We’ve gotta get it down,” he added, and noted the film had been expanded in places.
Noel Gallagher has seen only brief clips. “I’ve only seen a tiny little bit of it and it’s difficult to have an opinion on it because I’m only looking at little snippets,” he said.
In February, Noel revealed he was back in the recording studio, though it is not clear whether those sessions were for new Oasis material. He said at the time he was “back at work” following a Christmas break.
British music title NME gave the opening night of Live ’25 in Cardiff a five-star review, calling the show “Oasis redesigned for the 21st Century” and describing the band as “the quintessential stadium band playing the greatest hits of greatest hits.”
