Super Furry Animals play first live show in a decade at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre

Super Furry Animals played their first live show in 10 years at Dublin's 3Olympia Theatre, opening a 22-song set focused on early material.

Super Furry Animals reunited for their first live performance in 10 years on Wednesday May 6 at the 3Olympia Theatre in Dublin. The gig opened the band’s 2026 Supracabra tour and focused on material from their early catalog rather than anything released in the past 23 years.

The Cardiff group went on hiatus in 2010 after rising to prominence in the 1990s. They briefly reunited in 2015 and 2016. Frontman Gruff Rhys has released solo work since, and other members formed Das Koolies. Last September the band confirmed a 2026 reunion tour under the Supracabra name.

They opened the Dublin show with back-to-back performances of “Wherever I Lay My Phone (That’s My Home)”, “(Drawing) Rings Around The World”, “Do Or Die” and “Golden Retriever”. The set continued with early tracks including “Hello Sunshine”, “Northern Lites” and “Play It Cool”. The 22-song evening closed with 1990s b-side “The Man Don’t Give A Fuck”.

In October the band reissued their seventh studio album, Love Kraft, on Cardiff independent label Strangetown Records. The release paired the original 12 tracks remastered with rarities, including the previously lost track “Rock N Roll Flu” featuring lead vocals from drummer Daf Ieuan.

Recent interviews have the band explaining why they turned down offers to support Oasis and U2, and a slot on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage. They also revisited an infamous Late Night With David Letterman appearance in which they say they “got into a row” with Max Weinberg, Letterman’s bandleader and Bruce Springsteen’s drummer.
