The Last Dinner Party release single “Big Dog” and spoken-word piece “Come All You Beasts”

The Last Dinner Party have released a new single, “Big Dog”, alongside a spoken-word piece titled “Come All You Beasts”. The pair are the bandirst new material since their sophomore album, From The Pyre, arrived last year.

“Big Dog” has been part of the grouponcerts for years. The band played it live on tour long before their debut album, Prelude To Ecstasy, and have traditionally recited a poem before performing it. Fans pressed the group to put the song out officially; the band have now recorded and released it as a standalone single.

The single was co-produced by The Last Dinner Party alongside Animesh Raval. Bandleader Abigail Morris and co. adopt a darker sonic approach on the track, with an emotive tone likened to PJ Harvey.

As for the accompanying poem, bassist Georgia Davies described “Come All You Beasts” as “a way to introduce the folkloric and storytelling elements of ‘From The Pyre’ to ‘Big Dog'”. She added: “The themes of the song were interpolated with Bible verses, subverting prescriptive messages about women bility. We have always been inspired by poetry and performance in all forms, so spoken word with improvisational accompaniment felt like a natural extension of our art.”

Touring and upcoming dates

The Last Dinner Party are on a headlining US tour that runs until mid-June. After that run they return to the UK and Europe for festival appearances including Isle of Wight, TRNSMT, and Latitude.

They are also scheduled to support Wolf Alice at Finsbury Park and will make their first festival headline appearance at Wilderness. Additional dates include newly announced support slots with Olivia Rodrigo on her Unraveled Tour
