The Strokes Share New Single “Falling Out Of Love” Ahead of Reality Awaits

The Strokes share “Falling Out Of Love,” a six-minute new single from Reality Awaits, out 6/26 via Cult/RCA.

The Strokes have released a new single, “Falling Out Of Love,” from their upcoming album Reality Awaits. It follows last month’s announcement of the record and the band’s earlier single, “Going Shopping.”

Julian Casablancas leans hard into Auto-Tune again here, pushing the effect even further than on “Going Shopping.” On paper, “Falling Out Of Love” is a pretty, soulful heartbreak song. The band locks into a loping midtempo groove, while Casablancas stretches out into theatrical vocal runs. But the digital processing is impossible to miss, and at times his voice moves so far through the filters that it barely registers as human.

The track runs for more than six minutes, and the vocal effects become more pronounced as it goes on. Rick Rubin produced Reality Awaits, and the song should get its live debut on Colbert tomorrow night. The Strokes have also recently announced a large run of tour dates.

Reality Awaits is out 6/26 via Cult/RCA.
