The Wiggles admitted they do not know Oasis after failing to identify 'Wonderwall' on Nova 96.9, with Lucia Field saying she prefers Blur.

The Wiggles have admitted they are not familiar with Oasis, with Lucia Field saying she would “controversially” choose Blur instead.
The children’s group appeared on Nova 96.9’s Ricki-Lee & Tim to plug their new song ‘Sparkle’, where they were asked to identify famous songs from short clips. When Anthony Field and Lucia Field, performing as the Blue Wiggles, heard a snippet of Oasis’ 1995 single ‘Wonderwall’, neither could name it.
Lucia said she did not recognise the track. Once told it was by Oasis, she replied: “Controversially, I like Blur more… that is why I have no idea.” The comment nods to the Britpop rivalry that defined much of the 1990s, including the summer 1995 chart battle between Blur’s ‘Country House’ and Oasis’ ‘Roll With It’.
Blur won that week’s contest, though the feud has long been framed differently in hindsight. As Blur bassist Alex James later put it, Oasis won the war. The dispute even inspired a West End play last year.
Host Tim Blackwell said the slip was “going to go everywhere” after Lucia’s reaction to the song, which is nine-times platinum and has more than 2.3 billion Spotify streams.
Anthony Field then said he knew the song, but not much about the band behind it. He also admitted he had previously confused Oasis with The Beatles.
He recalled a visit to Abbey Road Studios with his son, where The Beatles recorded their final album and posed for the famous zebra-crossing photo, and said he accidentally bought an Oasis souvenir.
“I bought him what I thought was a Paul McCartney and John Lennon poster and he said, ‘They’re the guys from Oasis’… I am so out of touch, mate,” he said.
The comment lands in the middle of a busy spell for Liam Gallagher. Last week, he was spotted leaving Abbey Road Studios with The Stone Roses’ John Squire. The pair released their first album together, ‘Liam Gallagher John Squire’, in 2024, and talk of a follow-up is already circulating.
Gallagher has also been making headlines for his own remarks. He recently dismissed Suede and Manic Street Preachers as “both shit and lack attitude, swagger and style,” and added fuel to fresh Oasis tour talk by telling Italian fans the band will “without a doubt, 100 per cent” play in Rome next year.
Oasis are due to enter the Rock n’ Roll Hall Of Fame later this year. They were nominated in 2024 and 2025, after wrapping the huge ‘Live ’25’ reunion tour last year.
NME gave the Cardiff launch of that tour on July 4 a five-star review, writing: “Lord knows we needed a taste of that halcyon ’90s hope and abandon in 2025 – especially for the raving and craving Gen-Zers. The world is a rotting shitty bin-fire and tomorrow never knows, but tonight, you’re a rock’n’roll star.”
