Theatre Announce Debut EP Incarnate, Share New Song “You Are”

The Irish band Theatre have announced their debut EP, Incarnate, due out 6/12 on BMG/Echo. They have also released a new track, “You Are,” following last month’s debut single “The Fall.”

The group’s sound is broad and heavy, but it is Maeve O’Shea’s voice that stands out first. On “You Are,” she sings with a strained, wailing intensity that gives the track its shape. The song moves between weight and atmosphere, with the kind of tension that recalls familiar touchpoints in Irish rock without leaning too hard on them.

Theatre are from Limerick, the same city that produced the Cranberries, and “You Are” carries some of that same emotional charge. The comparison feels clearest in the song’s more forceful passages, where the intensity edges into something close to the peaks of No Need to Argue.

“You Are” explores visual imagery attached to my childhood spent in West Cork. Lyrically, each verse strings random memories together, the kind of memories that pop into your head as you’re walking down the street alone or doing your dishes. As the idea became whole, “You Are” turned into an ode to my childhood self, an anthem that I wish I could have heard when I needed it.
